Your Questions About Carpentry Tools

Ruth asks…

Carpentry tools?

Do you know any carpentry tools fitted with lasers?
Add a picture if possible.
Describe any safety precautions pertaining to the tool.

~Thanks

Dusty answers:

Many tools now come with lasers Drill presses, Miter Saws, Levels, and Circularsaws to name a few. Actually, any carpenter will know the safety precautions- Do not look directly at the laser. The purpose of the lasers is to help see where it is where you are about to drill cut or level etc. Anyway I do not have pics but any home improvement store clerk can show you in person (Lowe’s Menard or Home depot etc.) Good Luck!

Susan asks…

What are the 20 most used tools in Carpentry?

I have a Carpentry class and I have to pick the 20 most used tools and compare prices on them from 3 different stores, but since I just started the class very recently, I have no idea what I need! Help!

Dusty answers:

Okay, these would be my picks if I were to outfit my own woodshop:
Hammer, Screw driver, measuring tape, drill/screwgun (battery op), compound mitre saw, jig saw, table saw, palm sander, square, clamps, pneumatic stapler, pneumatic finish nailer, air compressor (for pneumatic tools), router, band saw, pliers, chisle set, hand saw, dovetail saw.

Things like nails, screws, glue and drill bits I consider supplies, not actual tools, I count saftey equipment seperate, too.

Lisa asks…

What is the best brand of carpentry tools?

Dusty answers:

There is no best brand. I really like Porter-Cable and you can’t beat Rigid’s guarantee, but every brand tends to have some tool that they just nailed.
Just stay away from the $20 saw, for example, from the auto parts store. Its like if you want to learn to be a musician on an instrument that won’t stay tuned and sounds bad. Its no fun and you’ll probably quit.
So start small. One good tool at a time will do you more good than 3 crappy ones. You get what you pay for.
